Are there any known lesbian delta sigma theta sisters? If so that would give GLBT's more confidence to pledge.?

1. There are not any openly lesbian members of Delta Sigma Theta. While I am sure that there may be some lesbians that are members, I don't know any personally nor have I heard of any. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is based on Christian principles so you must consider that many members will have a traditional view regarding a woman's sexual orientation. While I don't agree with homosexuality, I personally feel that your sexual preference is a personal choice (i am pretty liberal) I do not think that Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will ever condone homosexuality. For you (I am assuming you want to pledge Delta and you are a lesbian) it may be difficult because you want to be a member, but you are not sure how people will respond to your sexual orientation. My suggestion would be that if Delta is in your heart, continue to seek membership and if you can't be you then Delta may not be for you. Why would you want to be a part of an organization that does not support your lifestyle? Delta Sigma Theta was founded 96 years ago, so you have to imagine that there are many traditional views that still resonate in the sorority. While America is a progressive country, homosexuality is still not widely accepted by the population. There is nothing that stops you from still striving for high scholastic achievement and community service if you do not achieve membership in Delta Sigma Theta.
